Showing up for school has a huge impact on a student’s academic success starting in kindergarten and continuing through high school. Students must attend a minimum number of hours of school in order to comply with state law. School attendance is required by state law for students up to age 17 (Colorado School Attendance Law – C.R.S. 22-33-101 et seq.). We encourage families to stay in close communication with school staff to address reasons that the student might be missing school. A truancy court proceeding may be initiated if the student does not comply with the Colorado School Attendance Law.
Excused Absences:
An excused absence or tardy is one in which the parent, by phone/note or in person, presents a valid reason for non-attendance/tardy. Notification of an absence must be within 2 school days of the student’s return to school. Acceptable reasons for an excused absence or tardy are the following:
Please note: Excused absences or tardies do not qualify for perfect attendance.
Tardies:
The first bell in the morning rings at 7:40 a.m. Any child arriving to class after the 7:50 a.m. bell will be considered tardy. When a student arrives at school after 7:50 am, students should report directly to the office for a pass. Late arrivals will not be excused without a valid reason provided by the parent/guardian. Tardies after 11 a.m., will be considered a morning absences.
Early Releases:
School ends at 2:40 p.m., unless otherwise noted in the school year calendar. A guardian, or an adult previously approved by a guardian with the school must sign out students in the main office. Early releases between 11 a.m. and 2:40 p.m., will be considered an afternoon absence.
